Blog Assignment #4

Your blog assignment for this week will be a part of your First Partial project.

For your First Partial project, you will write an essay. First of all, you need to choose a topic from the following list:

1. The career I want to study
2. This school's worst problem (and possible solutions)
3. A special or unusual person
4. A valuable discipline or practice (lifting weights, rock climbing, karate, meditation, etc.)
5. Why many teenagers don't read the newspaper
6. The best (or worst) teacher I ever had
7. Music videos (choose one performer or group, one type of music, or one TV show)
8. The joys of homework (or housework or some other supposedly unpleasant task)
9. How to resolve an argument peacefully
10. An important film (it can be also be a book, a magazine, or a TV show)
11. The best gift I ever gave (or received)
12. Three ways that cigarrette ads hook kids

Make sure that each member of your team chooses a different topic, and create a new blog entry with a list of the topics selected by members of your team and the names of the people who selected them. In the COMMENTS section of your blog, you are going to do some prewriting. You can brainstorm, freewrite, ask questions, write a journal entry, write an outline, or cluster. After you do that, formulate your thesis statement and write it as well. You must comment and contribute to AT LEAST 2 of your teammates' prewriting by making suggestions or giving ideas as to where you think your teammate should go with the topic he or she chose.

The deadline for the blog part of the assignment is Thursday, February 26. After you complete it, you will write your essay and hand it in on Friday, February 27 (the day of your exam). Look in Chapter 4 of your book for help on writing your essay.

The guidelines for your essay are:

• The first line of each paragraph MUST BE INDENTED.
• Use Times New Roman, Arial, or Verdana size 12 for your essay.
• Your essay must be double spaced, justified, and the margins should be 1 inch on all sides.
• Your essay must include a cover page, with your name, my name, the title of your essay, the date, the name of the school, and the name of the class.
• Your thesis statement must be labeled CLEARLY, either by underlining it or by printing it in a different color. Remember that the rest of the essay must support your thesis statement!
